Thankful

Thursday, November 28, 2013

Last night our little girl came down with her first cold.

You can't really tell from this picture... but I swear there is snot all over her face.

Today she is running a small fever and is just miserable so we are sitting her first Thanksgiving out :( I am so bummed to miss this time with family and especially bummed that Hadley isn't feeling well on her first big holiday. We're going to try and make the best of it with some good football, snuggles and a few cold ones for mommy and daddy. And fortunately, I made about 2 tons of mac n' cheese and pumpkin pie... so at least we have that.

Today, and everyday, I have so much to be thankful for.

I am so grateful for my little family unit and for the amazing year we've had together. I'm grateful for our health (minus this week of illnesses!) and all the love that surrounds us.

I'm thankful for my parents, step mom, sisters, brother, grandmother and all of our loved ones. I feel so lucky that many of them live in the area and we are able to see them often.

I'm also grateful for our Montana family and cannot wait to be reunited with them. We miss you all everyday!

I'm thankful for such a great group of friends. You guys keep me laughing through it all and I don't know what I'd do without you!

I hope all of you have an amazing Thanksgiving (and Hanukkah!). Eat some turkey for us!!!!

Cheers!

Big girl bites & the stomach flu

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

It was a big weekend at the Thompson-Hudson household.

We kicked things off with Hadley's first bite of real life food!! As baby girl's 6 month mark has been fast approaching, Josh and I have been so excited to feed her some new and exciting flavors! She has been holding her head up on her own for a while now and can sit up on her own as well so we decided to jump the gun a few days early.

Bring on the sweet potatoes!

We received the baby bullet as a gift for our baby shower and so far I love it. It's super easy and comes with an awesome instructional book that explains which foods to begin with and what you can add in over coming months. It also came with 12 storage cups for small serving sizes which makes life a little easier.

I think she definitely enjoyed playing/teething on the spoon more than eating the sweet potatoes, but her faces were priceless! She looked pretty confused and intrigued throughout the entire process. I can't wait for the next food... bring on the bananas!

We had some visitors in town staying with us who have a two year old little girl so we took them to one of our favorite spots on Saturday, the DC Zoo. Then on Sunday we continued our new tradition with our 2nd Soup Sunday! This week the menu included creamy tomato soup and honey basil grilled cheeses.

(Please disregard my classy plate)

Honey on a grilled cheese may be my new favorite thing EVER. So delicious.

Our weekend continued into Monday for some Monday Night Football at Fedex Field. Josh and I went to the Redskins vs. 49ers game with my sister, his brother, our visitors and some friends! It was freezing but we made the best of it. Even though the Redskins ended up losing (BOO) and we also lost in Fantasy Football (double BOO).

And on a triple BOO... I ended up catching a stomach virus that hit me at 2am that morning. I won't gross you out with the details but I was on our bathroom floor for the remainder of the night and ended up in urgent care the next day.

The prettiest picture, ever?!

They hooked me up with an IV, a shot in my ass and some serious drugs. Luckily, the bug only lasted about 18 hours (the first 8 of which feel like absolute death), no one else caught it and I feel good as new today. And thank god for that because I was not about to miss out on Thanksgiving tomorrow!!!! Who is ready for some good food?! I'm excited to whip up some baked mac n' cheese and pumpkin cheesecake pie for the big day.

In honor of the holiday season, Jeremiah (Josh's brother), Hadley and I are enjoying the Family Stone... only one of the best movies EVER. We usually watch it on Thanksgiving night but since we are spending the holiday at my uncle and aunt's house a few hours away I figured we'd be too tired to watch it then. So why not on Thanksgiving Eve?! I love this movie so much. Completely captures the essence of a crazy, large family that I hope to have one day. And who doesn't love Luke Wilson? I mean come on.

I hope you all have a wonderful and filling Thanksgiving! Don't forget your stretchy pants!

EPICNESS

Saturday, November 23, 2013

The perfect way to describe how much my life has changed in the last year and a half is.......... EPICALLY. Like, HOLY HADLEY epically. So I figured I'd start writing about it.

First came Josh.

Joshua Beau Charles drunkenly stumbled into my life on July 27th of 2012 and I haven't been able to get rid of him since. Luckily for me, he turned out to be the most amazing man I've had the pleasure of meeting.

We started seeing each other immediately and became pretty inseparable. After knowing him only 24 hours I had this feeling in my gut that he was going to be something important to me. I just didn't know how important or how soon. Two weeks later...

Then came baby.

Two weeks?! Yeah, that's right. I said two weeks. To say our relationship was fast is an understatement. Due to some freakish timing and unfortunate symptoms, we actually didn't find out I had a bun in the oven until the day of my birthday (talk about a birthday present!)... almost 13 weeks after conception. Josh and I were both shocked and I honestly was terrified. But after the shock subsided we both knew what we wanted and haven't looked back since.

It was hard for me to be excited in the beginning because I was so scared for the baby. I felt guilty for not knowing sooner and held my breath during many, if not all, of the ultrasounds. We had some testing done for genetic disorders and the results did include a chance of Down Syndrome. I remember the doctor telling me a woman my age usually has 1/1,000 odds of having a child with Down Syndrome. Our test came back 1/200. Now a rational human being could calculate those odds and see that it comes out at a mere 0.005% chance. But when I heard our odds over the phone, rationale was the farthest thing from my mind.

Josh was so supportive during this time. We had to deal with some tough decisions so early in our relationship and he never faltered once. We kept our chins up and put as much positive energy as we could into this pregnancy! Over the coming months each ultrasound checked out and the baby seemed healthy. And after several months of anticipation....

Then came Hadley!

Our healthy baby girl was born on May 30th of 2013. Josh and I feel so lucky to have her in our lives. She is full of smiles, funny faces and the girl has a serious set of lungs on her. LOOK OUT. Everyday is an adventure with her and we can't imagine our lives any other way. We love you Hadley!!! Fast forward, yet again, 6 months and....

Then came engagement!

Are you starting to get why this year & a half has been on another level of crazy? For someone who was single for 5+ years shit got real FAST. Josh asked me to marry him on November 9th in front of many members of my family. It was so special and I'll never forget his sweet words (and nerves!).

WHEW! So now it is on to wedding planning and enjoying this time together. I couldn't ask for more and can't wait to see what other craziness comes our way.
