DIY Valentine headbands

Can you guys believe Valentine's Day is only 3 days away??
February always flies by but I feel like it really snuck up on me this year.

Even though Hadley can't enjoy all of the chocolate goodness that this holiday is really all about (the only important part in my eyes) I still wanted to put together a little gift for her. Although, lets get real... I still bought "her" candy. I bought a box and a few Valentine goodies... stuffed animals, a LOVE picture holder to put in her room, sippy cup and lastly.. a homemade headband!

This is the first time I've ever made a headband and it was so easy I may never buy one ever again. Which is good because I have a baby headband obsession. My bank account will be pleased.

Here's what you need...

Elastic of your choice
3/4 inch Fabric adhesive circles or self-stick felt pads (I found mine at Michaels)
Fabric glue
Embellishments of your choice
Measuring tape

Here's what you do...

Measure your child's head (or your own... it's a great gift for any age!) and cut your elastic 1.5 inches shorter than the measurement.

Take your fabric adhesive circles and connect the ends of your elastic by sticking to one circle. Thee fabric adhesive circles can be a pain to find but I ended up using Scotch self-stick felt pads that you use on glass or the bottom of furniture so it won't scratch. They worked perfect and are so much easier to find in stores. If you want the actual fabric adhesive circles (which may have a stronger hold) you can order them online here.

Take another circle and place directly over top of the first circle so there will be no sticky sides or ends of elastic exposed. Squeeze the two circles together tightly and then test the hold by pulling on your elastic. It should hold together really well! If you're a visual learner like I am.. you can watch a video here to see it all.

Now comes the fun part. You can do so much with these! Something sparkly, jewels, flowers, shapes, colors. Anything your heart desires! If you decide to use something like a jewel or leather piece then I would suggest using a glue gun or rubber cement if the fabric glue doesn't hold it well enough.

I picked out a bunch of fun Valentine's colored owls and hearts. I also bought a small amount of red fabric to cut hearts and circles out of. Once you decide how you want to decorate it, use the fabric glue to first cover your fabric adhesive circles with something. You'll want something big enough so you can't see it sticking out. Keep gluing along the elastic until you're finished!

Let the headband dry 24 hours before wearing and do not wash for at least 10 days.

Aren't these so cute?!!! They came out even better than I thought they would. Such a fun gift you can do for pretty much any holiday or event. Would be a fun craft party idea for older kids too!

Lots of Valentine love,
