I scream, you scream

It's Monday and dreary here near the nation's capital so I thought what better way to spread some cheer than with homemade ice cream??
I love ice cream. I mean, I love mostly anything sweet, but I really love ice cream. Especially chocolate and even better if rainbow sprinkles are involved.
For my first home making ice cream experience I decided to branch out a little from regular old chocolate and make a batch of Oreo Nutella swirl. Ohhhh the decadence! And the best news?? You do NOT need an ice cream machine for this recipe! I just advise you to tread lightly moving forward... the knowledge of how to make ice cream at home with just a few ingredients and no machinery required is actually quite dangerous.
You can see the original recipe over at Chef in Training.
What you need...
8oz tub Cool Whip, thawed
14oz can sweetened condensed milk
8oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup Nutella
What you do...
In a large bowl beat the cool whip, condensed milk, cream cheese, 1/4 cup of the butter and vanilla on medium speed until smooth.
Using a food processor, blender or by hand, finely crush the Oreos. Combine the crushed Oreos with remaining 1/4 cup of your softened butter. Mix well. Drop small spoonfuls over top of the ice cream mixture. Do not stir.
Next drizzle the Nutella over the top of your Oreo and ice cream mixture. It might help to heat the Nutella a bit. Mine ended up with larger chunks of Nutella throughout instead of a swirl. But who are we kidding. It's damn delicious no matter what.
Using a rubber spatula or large spoon, fold your ice cream mixture a few times to distribute the Oreos and Nutella. Do not stir or mix too much. You want the chunks of Oreo to stay together!
Pour the mixture into a 9x5 loaf pan or any deep dish. Cover with saran wrap and freeze for at least four hours. If you can wait that long......
Grab a large spoon and dig in! Or just stick your face right in it and start licking.
And in keeping with our ice cream theme today.. I stumbled on this adorable DIY poster on A Beautiful Mess last night. I've been looking for inspiration for the play room at our new house and love this for summer time!!!
Now that is just about lunch time... I hope you all are ready to down some ice cream and turn this Monday into something reeeeeeal special.
