Labor day festivities

I don't know about you guys but I am super pumped the holiday weekend is almost here!

Josh, Hadley and I are heading to Ocean City tonight to kick it on the beach this weekend. We'll be staying with my sister, her friend and my mom so it should be tons of family fun!!!

Fingers crossed Hadley ventures into the sand this time around. She was not having it at all earlier this summer but we got some water shoes for her so hopefully those will help. We're also hoping the ocean is warm enough that we can all go in for a swim :)

I hope you all have some fun plans up your sleeves!
It's the last weekend of summer, AHHHHH!

I thought I'd send you off on your labor day way with a few pics of this cutie patootie.
I managed to get her hair into her 1st ponytail and I'm in love.

denim pom romper.. on clearance today!!

XO my loves,

DC Feature: The Yards Park

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Ever since Josh, Hadley & I moved to DC we've been so pumped about exploring this [kinda] new city of ours. There has been so much change here over the last few years.. especially in South East and on all the waterfront property this place has to offer. We couldn't be more thrilled with the kid-friendly parks popping up all over.

The weather was beautiful on Sunday so we decided to head to the Yards Park near the Nationals Stadium for a little splash park action. Hadley is obsessed with water so we knew something like a splash pad would be her dream come true.

We had never walked around this area before. Usually when we get off at Navy Yard metro station we're headed straight to the Nats game or a bar before the Nats game so we we're excited to see what was around.

I was completely blown away!

I had no idea how many restaurants and awesome water features they had to offer right on the Anacostia River. The area is filled with old warehouse buildings that are being repurposed and new, modern construction. The splash park was more than we imagined. There were tons of fountains on the top level and below was a giant pool with a waterfall feature. All of this was open to the public and there were kids everywhere. Hadley lost her shit she was so stoked!

She played in the water until her teeth were literally chattering and then we walked around to explore the shops. We got ice cream at Ice Cream Jubilee and it was the perfect treat. They had the coolest mix of flavors.. I had to show some restraint and not ask for a sample of every single one.

On our way back to the metro we spotted a trapeze school right on the sidewalk. I think I'm going to have to try that one out one day... looks so fun!!!
This city ROX!!!

If you're a local to this area I definitely recommend checking the Yards Park out! Even if you don't have kids, the restaurants on the water would be perfect for a date night. I personally can't wait to check out Agua 301 for some modern Mexican, Kruba Thai & Sushi and Osteria Morini for some really delicious looking Italian.

Love to you all,

Happy weekend pretty people!

We've been having a wonderful Saturday over here.. relaxing, watching tons of Disney movies and making some yummy food. We even got in a family nap. SCORE.

I thought I'd share a few things I've been obsessed with lately just in case you might become obsessed as well ;)

[1] This cake carrier from Target's Cake Boss collection is da bomb dot com.

And so is this strawberry shortcake
Because you know... cake.

Which leads us to...

[2] Food.

I guess this one is more of an always love than latest love but I've been cookin up a storm lately and stumbled on some new favorite recipes.

Last night we cooked up some beer can chicken and cauliflower mac n cheese. Both of which were yummy beyond belief.

If you've never heard of beer can chicken before.. you basically shove a half full beer inside a chicken (dead chicken preferably) and cook it over indirect heat. The beer steams the chicken from the inside out and makes it super tender. We rubbed our chicken down with Italian seasoning but you could do whatever your heart desires. I think for the cauliflower I might try spicing it up next time with some red pepper flakes or cayenne. Take it to the next level.

Hadley had french toast last weekend and went crazy for it so it's becoming a little bit of a Saturday tradition.

Just mix a few eggs, whole milk or half/half, cinnamon, vanilla extract and sugar in a bowl. Coat some pieces of bread in the mixture and cook up on a hot skillet. Top with some butter and syrup!

I think next weekend I may have to try this version

While we were whipping up her breakfast she comes waltzing out of the bathroom with this around her neck.

I'm not sure where she learned such a classic scarf technique.
"Just keeping my neck warm with this toilet paper, ma!"

[3] We just bought this duvet from Urban Outfitters and I lurrrve it.

Such a simple design with just enough color to build on for the rest of the room!

[4] I came across the Twirl Shop last week and had to get one of the skirts for Hadley immediately! Sooooo cute and fun! You could pair any of them with leggings or tights for an adorable Fall outfit too.

[5] Is anyone else obsessed with all the beautiful hand drawn calligraphy work that shows up pretty much everywhere these days? Menus, wedding invitations, shops, logos.. you name it.

I've been admiring Laura Hooper's work on instagram for a hot minute and just saw that she's coming to DC for a class! SIGN ME UP!

[6] After our little fiasco on Wednesday (you can read more about Hadley getting locked in our car here... it was real fun) Josh sent me this video to cheer me up :)

Have a great Saturday!!!!
