Hadley's Latest

Thursday, February 27, 2014

Little Haddie Lu is turning 9 months old tomorrow.
She's officially been out of the womb almost as long as she was in it. Which just absolutely blows my mind. Nothing makes you realize how fast time really moves until you make a little human and watch it grow into a big human overnight.

M i l e s t o n e s  :  This girl is a speed demon. And not only that, she is so fearless. She loves climbing the entire staircase in one go and falling off her little rocking chair in her room on purpose. She plops on the floor with the biggest smile on her face. She stands up without holding anything for long periods of time and seems to be ready to walk any day now. EEEK.

I still cringe every time this girl smacks her head. This week she gave herself a little shiner and even spilt some blood... how am I going to handle anything worse than that?!!!

She's also gained her first tooth!!! FINALLY. I feel like she's been teething for freaking ever.
Now we just have to wait for the 19 others.............
joy.

F a v o r i t e   F o o d s  :  Thankfully, our gal is quite the eater. So far she has liked almost everything we've given her except chicken. And we think that's a texture problem but who really knows?! I still make some of her food but mostly we use the easy squeeze packets. They're just too damn convenient and they have so many different options! We also have started giving her puff cereals so she can practice for her finger foods. She gets probably about 30% and Cali gets the rest, that lucky dog. The best is when I change Hadley for bed and find pieces of cereal stuck to her belly. Just saving some for later mom!!

Her favorite foods are banana, avocado, sweet potato puffs and pretty much any fruit in existence.

S l e e p  :  We FINALLY seem to be on a schedule these days. Although, now that I've said that I'm sure she'll wake up at 3am tonight just to stick it to me. Most days she wakes up around 7am. She'll take a two hour nap early in the day and a one hour nap later in the afternoon. When she's feeling really ballsy she just takes one. Her daddy puts her to sleep around 7pm and badabing badaboom, she's OUT.

Now that she is mobile she falls asleep so quickly at night. It used to be such a battle. Now he rocks her for a bit and puts her down on her back. She immediately flips over to her belly and passes
da f#!% out.
It's so nice.

We've recently put some stuffed animals and little blankets in her crib for nap time so she can snuggle and soothe herself to sleep. She is such a snuggle monster so I had a feeling she was going to love them. She really didn't seem to notice them for the first couple of weeks but now she is so cute playing and laying with them.

When I was growing up I was obsessed with my little stuffed pup named JoJo. He even had a girlfriend puppy but I can't seem to find her.
Seeing Hadley play with him just makes my heart smile! So sweet :)

F a v o r i t e  A c t i v i t i e s  :  Stair climbing, bouncing on anything, trying to climb in the dishwasher, eating my phone, playing in the dog bowl, playing in the trash can, trying to climb off the bed, playing with any and every electrical cord, stealing the dog's toys, eating the dog's toys and pretty much anything else she's not supposed to do.

She's quickly learning what the word "no" means. I'll tell her no and she'll look at me, smirk a little and then do it again. The word no to her is hilarious.
Touche Hadley, touche!
I'm sure I'll see that same smirk when she's 13. Help me.

Q u i r k s  :  The fists are still a large part of Hadley's vocabulary. The other night she kept doing it over and over again and I thought she was going to pop a blood vessel. She has a lot of feelings.

She also does the fists when I take her to play groups and she sees other babies. She gets SOOOO excited she does not know how to handle it. So she just squeezes her hands and grunts a lot. She is not shy at all either. She'll crawl up to any kid at the place and try to climb on top of them/steal their toy.

One of her new tricks is something her great grandmother taught her. I really have no idea how to explain it so you'll just have to watch the video...

I am so excited to see what else in store for this little gal. I can not wait for her to start talking... Which I realize is a long ways away but I just want to hear that little voice!!!!

This weekend Josh and I are off to see some of our best pals up in NYC and I am so pumped about it! Live music, a birthday celebration and all around GOOD TIMES! I hope you all have an awesome weekend :)

Cheers,

Mom dating

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

After I gave birth to Hadley, life became so intensely focused around her.
I was (and still am) so obsessed with this new, amazing person I had to hang out with and care for that I was completely content just being with her all day, every day.

In the beginning, it was nice just the two of us.
She didn't move much.. or do really anything other than poop, eat and sleep. We snuggled a lot and took a bazillion and one pictures. She cried a lot and so did I. She learned how to smile and I smiled right back at her. It was amazing, boring, perfect and frustrating all at the same time. Some days I was completely happy being smothered in drool, wearing my PJs all day long with my boob hanging out... while other days I craved having an adult conversation without a baby on my teet.

I figured it was time to get back out in the world.

Before I met Josh, I was always really against online dating. I never did it and swore I never would. It just never seemed genuine to me. That is.... until I found online mom dating. I've already joined two mommy groups and a website that is like Facebook for local moms (called Mom Meet Mom if you're interested!).
Inserting foot in mouth now.

To give myself some credit, Josh and I just moved to Maryland last year. Not only do I not know that many people in this area... I definitely don't know any moms. So I'm desperate for friends, OKAY!!! I'm in the market!!!!

Making friends with other moms feels a lot like courting a lover. Although, instead of offering a drink at the bar to catch the other person's attention.. I take full advantage of the situation when my baby tries to pull another baby's hair out. "Oh my gosh, I am so sorry about that! She's still learning what 'gentle' means. I'm Lauren by the way." Isn't this how everyone does it??

Hadley has had so much fun at the mommy-baby events and groups we've attended so far. She gets so excited around the other babies (a little tooooo excited sometimes) and the really nice part is when she zonks out so hard afterwards. I've met some nice ladies so far and can't wait to get to know more moms in our area.

Jumping back into civilization after months of hibernation with a baby can be tough but I am so excited to watch Hadley interact and make little friends of her own...

and hopefully they'll come with nice moms too ;)

XO,

A surprise to remember

The secret is FINALLY out!!!
I have been scheming for a month now and if you know me.. you know I am horrible at keeping secrets.

This past Saturday I threw Josh a surprise birthday party that turned into an even bigger surprise than I could of imagined!

I sent out invites about a month ago to our friends and family. A few days after that I got a call from Josh's mom and she told me that her, Josh's dad, his sister and her husband we're all flying out from Montana for the party. I could not even believe it!!!! I knew Josh was going to lose his mind!!!!

Somehow we all kept it under wraps and Josh was completely clueless. I got him out of the house on Saturday so we could get the place ready and whip up some yummy food.

On the menu was...
And my personal favorite... mac n' cheese cups.

That night Josh and his brother (who was helping me keep him away all day!) came home to a house full of friends and family. Josh was completely confused and surprised seeing all of us in the house. But the best part was when he turned around and saw his family standing in our hallway :)

It was such a sweet moment that I'll truly never forget. The look on his face was absolutely priceless. And then I think pretty much everyone was in tears. So sweet!

Indiana Jones came to the party... Someone really loves his new hat!

It was so great to have Hadley's grandparents and aunt and uncle here. I'm so glad she got to spend time with them, even though it never feels long enough!

Thank you to everyone who came for Josh's birthday surprise! We love you all so much!!

Now to fighting off this cold before our big trip to NYC :)

Cheers to you all,

DIY Photo Canvas

Thursday, February 20, 2014

I told you folks this was next up on my DIY list and I was not kiddin'!

Inspired by the gals over at A Beautiful Mess
Minus the time it took to dry.. this project took me about 10 minutes to do.
So easy, so cute!

What you need...

9 4x4 inch photos
12x12 inch canvas
Matte-finish mod podge
Paint brush

What you do...

Choose and print the 9 pictures you want to use. I printed my instagram images through ink361. Their site is user friendly and deliver the pictures right to your door.

Once you've chosen your pictures, lay them out how you want them on the canvas. Once you're happy with it, start gluing!

Let your pictures dry and then seal them by painting the mod podge directly over top.

This part is optional... it'll keep your pictures protected but it can also give you more of a textural finish. If you want it to look smooth I would skip that part. If you like the texture look, feel free to experiment with different applicators like a roller or sponge.

Let it dry completely and display!

I might make one of these bad boys for every room in the house... too much?!

IT'S ALMOST FRIDAY, HALLE-FREAKIN-LUJAH!!!!

Cheers my friends,

Latest loves

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Valentine's may be over but the love continues!

I hope you all had a special day and weekend with all of your loves. The molten lava cake was all I dreamed it would be and more. Now I just have to refrain from making it every single weekend.

To keep the love alive I've put together a list of our latest finds that make us swoon...

[1] This playroom & office combo is so fun and functional. I love the use of color throughout and whimsy in the accessories. It makes every adult want to get down and play with the kiddies, and encourages the babes to read and create!

[2] This salmon recipe is so easy and SO delicious. I've made it twice now and I think it just keeps getting better and better. Highly recommend for you fish lovers out there!

[3] This great article on asking the right questions and keeping all of the relationships in your life genuine and strong.

[4] This song by one of my all time favorite bands, Young the Giant.

[5] One of the things I've been trying to do around our home is make sure we have photos displayed throughout. It's so easy to forget about them now that everything is digital but there is little I love more than printed photographs.

This easy-peasy DIY from the rockstars over at A Beautiful Mess is the perfect piece for any room! And lucky me, I have so many canvases waiting to be used. This is definitely next up on my DIY list!

[6] Breaking Bad was such an amazing show (I still miss you Jesse Pinkman!!!!! Come back to us!) and to keep it alive with this pint-size Heisenburp shirt is making my heart happy. Thank you Mariam for this perfect gift!

[7] And last but not least, the amazing Freshly Picked baby moccasins. I spotted these bad boys a while ago but have been waiting for months for a sale. Finally, I got my wish the other day and they just arrived! They're great for new (almost) walkers and are painfree to put on a restless babe. So soft and cute and they have tons of fun colors and designs.

And of course, my latest always and greatest love is this character...

XO,

Happy Valentine's my loves!

Friday, February 14, 2014

It's finally here... the one day of the year we're allowed to eat 6 bags of reese's cups and not feel bad about it. Oh wait... I've been doing that all week already.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

Whether you have someone special in your life or not.. I hope you are taking the time to make this day special for you! Treat yourself, you deserve it.

Josh woke me up with the new Nestle butterfinger peanut butter cup bar in my face. I saw a commercial for it a few weeks ago and shouted something along the lines of, "OH MY GOD, MUST HAVE," as drool simultaneously dripped out of my mouth. What an angel.

I put a few little decorations in Hadley's room and then we started our day off with a good ole Friday photo shoot.

She was obviously really excited about it....

All she really wanted to do was eat the camera strap...
After a while we got it together...
Right after this picture was taken, she did a front somersault right onto the floor... giggling the entire time.
Dare.Devil.
We are in so much trouble...

Then she just wanted to get naked...
And then she passed out.

I'm happy to report this is her longest nap to date at 2+ hours!
Happy Valentine's Day to me!

This year I decided to try something different and handwrite our own cards in Photoshop. It was really fun to play around with different messages and fonts... I love how they turned out!

If you're looking for a last minute card you can download the files linked above and print them on cardstock paper. Just fold in half, write your message inside and voila!

I'm off to start prepping our Valentine's dinner... we're having steaks with homemade cowboy butter, asparagus, crab cakes & homemade chocolate lava cakes. Thank you, pioneer woman, for all of the deliciousness you bring me. NOM NOM.

Love to you all !!!
