Dress up your Target frame

Thursday, July 28, 2016

We've been getting more done around our house these days and DAYUM does it feel good!

My main focus has been our bedroom since we've neglected that space the most in our time together, and I really want to make it feel like a cozy oasis away from our two knuckleheads. But sometimes we don't always have the time or the money to build king size bed frames, buy expensive rugs or bring home a new chaise lounge chair.

So what can you do in between to still give your space some character?

One idea is to dress up something that you already own!

There are literally one zillion ways you can take this project and make it your own but you really only need a paint pen and some inspiration to create some magic!

I kept walking by our newly hung frame right in the entrance of our home and I swear the paint pen was calling my name. It was like I couldn't stop myself! And luckily, I'm really happy with how it turned out!

Everyone and their mother has seen or owns this frame from Target so I think it's cool to give it a custom look all it's own.

I wanted to keep the pictures the main focus so I went with a simple pattern and just the color white.

You can find the type of paint pen I used here.

This frame is so cheerful to me now and it puts a smile on my face everytime I walk by. And it took only 10 minutes! BOOYAH!

Cheers my dears,

Nora's 1 Year Scrapbook

Wednesday, July 27, 2016

When Hadley was born, I wanted to document her first year of life with photos of her each week so we could see her grow and have a momento to treasure for years to come.

With our second born we decided to forgo that tradition and now we're brainstorming ways we can break it to her when she's older.

Just kidding.

You know I had to do it again!

No promises for you, nonexistent unborn third child.

Anywho, I finally got all the photos edited, printed and assembled into an adorable mini photo album.

I was so happy with how it turned out that I decided to take apart Hadley's old scrapbook (you can see that post here) and put it into a mini photo album as well to protect the photos over the years.

Little Nora, I can't get enough of you!!!!! I love flipping through this and be taken back to each of these days and all the times when you we're smallest. When you we're experiencing the world for the first time, soaking in everything around you, still unable to run away from us like you do now and making new expressions and sounds with each day.

These are the old pages from Hadley's 1st scrapbook that I cut down and put into the protective sleeves.

The scrapbook binding method I used the first time around would have worked better for a book with less pages at that size or larger pages. It was just too fat to really work that way!

Seeing you now at three, it's almost impossible to remember you when you we're this small Hadley girl!

I don't know how I'm going to feel when you're 5, 12, 18 and I'm looking back at this treasured little book?! Ugh. Kills me and fills me with joy all at once, this wacky and fleeting thing called time.

Each photo takes me back to that day with you and I can almost remember how it felt before you could talk or sass me like you do now :-P

And you know I couldn't resist a little side-by-side action. Nora's photos are on top and Hadley's are on the bottom. There's no doubt you two we're cut from the same cloth <3

To make these scrapbooks, I took all the photos on my iPhone in square format. I edited them using the Color Story (lighting, color, cropping adjustments) and A Beautiful Mess (to add text) apps right there on my phone.

I printed the photos in 4x4 inch size using the Shutterfly app, which frequently offers FREE 4x6 and 4x4 photo prints. In fact, they're free on the app as we speak! You'll just have to pay for shipping (usually around $8 depending on how many you order).

I used the 4x4 inch Iris photo sleeves and 4x4 inch Gold Stripes Messy Book Album from A Beautiful Mess Shop, which are all on sale! I used the Mint Classic Leather 4x4 inch album by We R Memory Keepers for Hadley's scrapbook, also on sale.

These books do take some planning and some time to keep up with and put together, but if you're anything like me and taking several photos of your kids each and every day, you already have the photos on your phone. It's just a matter of putting those precious photos to some good use.

Cheers to all the squishy babies and the rollercoaster that is the 1st year of life!

Hadley Says: Volume 2

Monday, July 18, 2016

It's Monday and after a week away visiting friends and family down South, Josh is back to work and we're back to the grind.

So I think it's high time for some three year old silliness to cheer up my Monday blues!

If you've lived with a three year old before, you know that it can be pretty entertaining.
That is, when they're not absolutely losing their god damn minds.

Hadley has been cracking us up and driving us bonkers with her emotional outbursts.

Lately, things are very dramatic for her. Everything is a big deal and everything is too much to handle. I have a feeling this cycle will be repeating itself in about 10 years.......

Whether you're telling her she has to share her high heels with Nora or that she's not allowed to sleep outside with Cali, it usually leads to an exasperated sigh, head down and stomping off to pout in the next room. Or it's like death com five and she goes roaring through the house like a possessed lion. You never know.

But when she's not storming off or screaming about something, she is pretty hilarious!

After I playfully spanked her in the booty, "Hey! That's my butt!"

Talking to Nora in bed before bedtime, "Daddy's reading a book to me, not youuuu."

A few weeks before we we're having her Minnie Mouse themed birthday party,
"Mama, when is Minnie's birthday?"

While walking up the stairs to the bathtub, "Bye Cali! I love you!"
^^^Cali is one of our dogs and the only dog in her eyes.

"I need you, Ma."
She likes to say this one with a lot of drama, usually to help her change into her next dress up outfit and put a crown on her head #diva

When she can't find her Lambie stuffed animal (and it's usually right next to her),

When I tell her she's not supposed to come up to Nora's room when I'm trying to put her to sleep for her nap.. "Welllllll, I tried calling you!"

She's so into tiny things these days. She only likes to eat with "tiny spoons" as she calls them and I even made her a tiny burger the other night.
She pulled out the 1/4 teaspoon to eat with and I said, "Are you sure you can eat with that thing?!" She replied, "YUP! Sure thing!"

After a Subway commercial, "Mmmmm, I want that bread!"

Repeating Josh, "Mama, turn off the trashy TV!"

Josh to Hadley: You're not the boss of me!
Hadley to Josh: I the boss of you!

While I was working at the dining table and she was going downstairs to play with our babysitter,
"Have fun, Mama!"

Our dogs, Cali and Madden, got into a little tiff in the kitchen over some spilt food. Hadley and I were in the other room so we didn't see the squabble.
When I tried to explain to her that the dogs we're fighting, she just couldn't bare the thought that her sweet and innocent Cali would be involved.
She proclaimed,
"Oh no! Not my Cali. It was just Madden, Mama."

After pooping she looks in the toilet and points to three different size turds,
"Mama poop, daddy poop, baby poop."

^^^Still has a death grip on the chips

"Mama, I see a reindeer!!!!" while driving in the van.

"I pick the show, I'm the boss of you!"

"I don't like mama, I like daddy."
Thanks, kid.

When Josh pointed out a jackrabbit at the beach hopping through the grass, "No daddy, that's a kangaroo!"

Josh asked me the other night (and every night :-P) if I wanted a glass of wine and Hadley yells,
"Uh huh!"

Me: Hadley, did you pee in your pants?
Hadley: No! Well, just a little bit.

While on the airplane last week, "I'm gonna fly this plane and go see Mimi!"

Sometimes we do elaborate performances and she came up with her own song called Flap Your Wings. Very inspirational stuff. Her singing and dancing is great and you get to see a little of her bossy side at the end of this video.

I may have taken the intros a bit too far but I think she was into it.

Me: We're going to visit a baby boy today.
Hadley: My sister?!
Me: Well, no, he would be your brother but you're not related. He's just a friend.
Hadley, with a sad face: Awww.
Hadley, with a hopeful voice: You have baby, Mama?!

Ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaa eeeeeeeeeek.

In case you missed it, here's Volume 1.

You can catch a lot of "Put your phone down!" and some of these wacky filters over on Snapchat @F0reverfirefly. With a zero, because I'm fly like that -_- Or because the original was already taken..... D'OH!

Here's to a good week friends <3

Wallpaper Favorites + Bookshelf Makeover

Tuesday, July 5, 2016

Things are starting to slow down a bit around here (can I get an AMEN?!) so I'm ready to dive back into getting our home furnished & decorated.

Which means... WALLPAPER!

I want to wallpaper the large focal wall in my office space and also parts of the walls in our dining room. I really want to try and have some fun with it and the fact that most of the new wallpapers are easily removable gives me some comfort. This is new territory for me so I'm a little nervous! And I do feel the pressure is on with Josh.. he's not convinced yet :-P

Here are some of my latest favorites...

This Watercolor by Ashley Goldberg for Chasing Paper is beautiful! I love how it adds great color but isn't too overwhelming.

Palms are everywhere and I am loving the oversized pale green ones. Nana in pink at Hygee & West and Green Palms by Chasing Paper.

It's official.. I'm obsessed with Kate Zaremba.

All of her wallpapers are so fun! I actually just ordered a ton of samples from her site so I'm really excited to see them come to life in person. And even better, they won't break the bank like some wallpapers can.

Muse Variations in Teal by Kate Zaremba and Floral Circus by Kate Zaremba.

Really feeling this one for my office space. It feels so cheerful! Plants on Pink by Kate Zaremba.

Also love this whimsical floral wallpaper by Nathalie Lété. It definitely draws you right in and I love all the different details throughout. Jardin Creme by Nathalie Lété.

I am so into these fruity, fun prints for our dining room!

We have a chair rail that runs around the room and I'm considering wallpapering just the top or just the bottom. I'd also love to mix it up and wallpaper the island in the kitchen to tie it all in. I've got a lemon theme already playing out in the kitchen so I'm leaning that way but the avocados are so darn cute! I don't know!!! Ahhhh!!!

It's raining avocados by Kate Zaremba and Lemon Bowl by Kate Zaremba

^^Are you noticing a theme?

Fun fact.. Kate Zaremba is based in DC! And she's a part of a creative group called The Lemon Bowl who hosts pop-up shops and workshops in their NW space so check it ouuuuut.

This one is a real beaut but maybe a bit too sophisticated for what I'm going for? It's very tranquil to me and I think would be great in a guest room.

Woodland by Chasing Paper for West Elm

Can you believe this is a DIY hand painted design?? Elsie at A Beautiful Mess kills it again.

I love the idea of using a gold leafing pen and your own stencil to create a pattern. She did an entire room which is NUTS but also so freakin' cool.

This could be a fun and much cheaper option.

And if you're looking for other metallic options, look no further than Juju Papers. Their wallpapers come in tons of different metallic colors and are super fun!

Spoonflower is another great source for tons of options. It's a little overwhelmeing at first so be prepared to sit and search through for a while. They have the best selection when it comes to wacky and fun designs. I mean within 5 minutes I was able to find a Rainbow Hillary Clinton wallpaper and Harry Potter wallpaper. Imagine what you could find after 30 minutes of searching?! The possibilities are endless!!! You can even upload your own design to create your own wallpaper.

In other wallpaper news, I recently ordered some green and marigold speckle from Chasing Paper and did a little bookcase makeover in Hadley's room. I love how it turned out and am excited to add some other peek-a-boo wallpapers to our stair case and some other shelves.
